Fine Contemporary Jewellery, Handmade in Montreal
Why I believe in the artisanal process
I believe that when you buy something handmade by a local artist or artisan, you are promoting a sustainable way of life and enriching your own with an object that has meaning.
My art and jewellery making are a big part of who I am, and therefore reflect the same values I strive to live by. The earth matters to me. I live a frugal life, eat organic and local food as much as possible; I wear my clothes until they fall apart, or get them fixed; I hoard and reuse all kinds of things that would normally be thrown away, much to the chagrin of my beloved wife…
Despite this, I work with metals and stones that were extracted from the earth far from where I live, the extraction process making a huge mess no doubt. 120 years ago I would have headed to the Yukon and found my own gold to work with, and someday I might just do that, but in the meantime I use recycled silver and gold, I source ethically mined gems whenever I can, and, given the option, I ride my bike instead of using the car. In short, I try to be conscious of my environmental impact, and of what my actions promote.
